About This Medicine
Inderm is a topical solution containing 1% erythromycin for the treatment of mild to moderate acne vulgaris. Erythromycin reduces the population of Cutibacterium acnes on the skin and has anti-inflammatory properties. However, due to increasing bacterial resistance, topical erythromycin should ideally be combined with benzoyl peroxide to preserve its effectiveness. Inderm is applied as a liquid, making it suitable for large areas.
Usage & Dosage
How to Apply Inderm
Cleanse the affected area gently and pat dry before use. Apply Inderm (erythromycin) solution to the affected skin twice daily, morning and evening. Allow the solution to dry completely before applying any other skincare products. For best results, use consistently for the full recommended period, antibiotic treatments for acne often take six to eight weeks before a clear improvement is seen.
Ideally, combine Inderm with a benzoyl peroxide product to reduce the risk of antibiotic resistance developing. Using both together significantly improves effectiveness compared to either alone.
Apply twice daily to affected areas. Treatment duration: typically 6 to 8 weeks. Combine with benzoyl peroxide to reduce antibiotic resistance.
Side Effects
Side Effects
Side effects from Inderm are generally mild and local:
- Skin dryness or tightness
- Mild irritation or burning on application
- Skin peeling
- Redness at the application site
These effects are usually temporary and settle as your skin adjusts. If irritation is severe or persistent, use less product or apply less frequently, and speak to a pharmacist or doctor. Avoid getting the solution in your eyes, nose, or mouth.
Warnings & Precautions
Topical antibiotic monotherapy promotes resistance. Always use alongside benzoyl peroxide. If no improvement after 6 to 8 weeks, reassess treatment.
Contraindications
Contraindicated in known hypersensitivity to erythromycin or other macrolides.
