About This Medicine
Nizoral shampoo contains 2% ketoconazole, a broad-spectrum antifungal, for the treatment and prevention of dandruff and seborrhoeic dermatitis of the scalp. Ketoconazole targets the Malassezia yeast that plays a central role in these conditions. Regular use reduces flaking, itching, and scalp redness. Nizoral also has some efficacy against scalp psoriasis when used as an adjunct to other treatments.
Usage & Dosage
How to Use Nizoral Shampoo
Apply Nizoral (ketoconazole 2%) shampoo to wet hair. Massage into a lather and leave on the scalp for three to five minutes before rinsing thoroughly. Allow the shampoo to contact the scalp skin during the waiting period — not just the hair.
For treatment of dandruff or seborrhoeic dermatitis: Use twice weekly for two to four weeks. Most users see significant improvement within this period.
For prevention after treatment: Use once weekly or once every two weeks to maintain control and prevent recurrence. Many people need ongoing intermittent use to keep seborrhoeic dermatitis under control.
For pityriasis versicolor on the body: Apply to affected skin, leave for three to five minutes, then rinse. Use once daily for five days.
Treatment: use twice weekly for 2 to 4 weeks. Prevention: use once every 1 to 2 weeks. Leave on scalp for 3 to 5 minutes before rinsing.
