About This Medicine
Treclin (also known as Acnatac) gel combines clindamycin (a lincosamide antibiotic) with tretinoin (a retinoid) for the topical treatment of acne vulgaris. Tretinoin normalises skin cell turnover and unblocks pores, while clindamycin reduces bacterial load and inflammation. The combination addresses multiple pathogenic factors of acne simultaneously.
Usage & Dosage
How to Apply Treclin Gel
After cleansing the face and patting it dry, apply a thin layer of Treclin gel to the affected area once daily in the evening. Avoid the eyes, lips, and mucous membranes. Allow the gel to dry fully before applying a moisturiser on top.
As Treclin contains both clindamycin (an antibiotic) and tretinoin (a retinoid), it is effective for both inflammatory spots and comedones. Expect some initial worsening of acne in the first two to four weeks, which is a normal part of the skin cell turnover process. Visible improvement usually becomes apparent after six to eight weeks.
Apply once daily in the evening. Treatment course: typically 12 weeks. Keep in the refrigerator.
Side Effects
Common Side Effects
Common side effects, especially in the early weeks:
- Skin dryness and peeling
- Redness and irritation
- Burning or stinging on application
- Initial worsening of acne
- Photosensitivity (increased sun sensitivity due to the tretinoin component)
Use a gentle, non-comedogenic moisturiser daily to manage dryness. Apply a high-factor sunscreen every morning. Treclin should not be used during pregnancy, as tretinoin is potentially harmful to an unborn baby.
Warnings & Precautions
Tretinoin increases sun sensitivity; use sunscreen daily. Keep refrigerated. Not suitable during pregnancy (retinoid). The initial purging phase is normal.
Contraindications
Contraindicated in pregnancy, breastfeeding, known hypersensitivity to clindamycin, lincomycin, or tretinoin.
